The founder of Recapo, Rode Gustavsson was born in Ekerö just outside of Stockholm. He began playing the violin at the local music school when he was nine, and decided then that he wanted to become a professional musician. In 2009 he gained a place at the specialist music school, Lilla Akademien in Stockholm, one of the most prestigious music schools in Europe. Besides the violin, he studied piano, music theory, ear training, choir, orchestra and composition, as well as physics, chemistry and mathematics to a high level.
At Lilla Akademien he began to work closely on musical materials with Hugo Ticciati and Mark Tatlow. Mark Tatlow wrote after a major transcription of Rameau: ”We have not found a single fault in the music. There is possibly only one letter in one word that might be wrong. However even the professional linguist in the choir is unsure whether it is a fault or correct.” In 2012 Rode Gustavsson began his continuing collaboration with the music festival O/Modernt.
In 2016 he received his bachelor degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, having studied violin with Michael Malmgreen. He completed his master degree in ear training pedagogy there in 2018.
As a violinist he has toured the Nordic countries, England, Estonia, Italy, Macedonia and USA, performed in prestigious concert venues such as Carnegie hall, Chicago symphony hall, in the States, and Berwaldhallen, in Sweden, and participated in radio and TV broadcasts both in Sweden and abroad. His arrangements have been performed in venues world wide.
